COMLINK Manager Software is designed to be used by
office based technical support staff and specialised user
groups, to allow them to browse, print and analyse NETLINK
test results stored in an ODBC compliant database.
COMLINK Manager runs under Windows ® 95, 98 or NT
on an IBM compatible desk top PC which is connected to a TCP/IP
network. COMLINK Manager automatically connects
to the ODBC compliant NETLINK Test Result database connected
to the network, and enables users to browse all the stored
test results.
The user can select which results to view via the result
filter:
- By origin or destination
- By test type
- By test outcome
- By the ID of the NETLINK Tester
- By time and date of test.
COMLINK Manager displays a summary of all the selected
tests in a test list. The user can then scroll through the
test list to select which test results to view or print.
COMLINK Manager also provides a Statistics function
for network performance analysis and management reporting.
The user can display the statistics of test calls which encountered
switching problems or which exceeded programmable switching
times.
For example:
- Calls which encountered busy
- Calls which received recorded voice
- Calls which experienced congestion
- Calls which disconnected before completion
- Calls which experienced communications problems
- Calls with excessive delay to dial tone or post dialling
delay.
The statistics of switching problems is displayed in graphical
format (histograms) together with the percentages of the selected
tests which experienced each of the problem categories.
The user can also display the statistics of selected test
calls with transmission characteristics exceeding user selectable
performance limits.
For example:
- Transmission loss
- Frequency response
- Transmission symmetry
- Noise
- Echo
- Impulse noise
- Dropouts.
There is no inherent limit to the number of users on a network
who can use COMLINK Manager to access the Test Result
database.
Technical support staff can use COMLINK Manager to
view field test results in real time, as field tests are performed,
in order to provide on-line assistance for field staff.
Regulatory groups can use COMLINK statistics to confirm
that the Network is performing to the required switching and
transmission standards. Service assurance staff can
use COMLINK Manager to verify that newly installed
services are meeting the customers’ needs and regulatory performance
requirements.
COMLINK Manager can also be used by fault investigation
and customer service personnel to ensure that customer faults
are cleared quickly and efficiently, and that records of fault
clearances are maintained in the database.
Network design groups and platform technology specialists
can use COMLINK Manager to verify that the quality
of network design is maintained, and that new network equipment,
such as digital radio systems, multiplexers, and signal processors,
provide the required quality of service.
